1ST MICHIGAN ENGINEERS AND MECHANICS SOLDIERS CANTEEN

Canteen identified to Theodore O. Daniels, who served in the 1st Michigan engineers and mechanics regiment during the Civil War. The canteen is embroidered "T.O. Daniels enlisted in Co. E. 1st Michigan Eng. and Mech. September 27, 1863." On the backside is an embroidered flower. The cover shows much fading and wear, with 2 strap loops loose and 1 missing. Theodore enlisted at Newark, Michigan, at the age of 34, and mustered out on 9/22/1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. He died in Ithaca, Gratiot County, Michigan, in 1907 and is buried in the Ithaca cemetery.
