Overall, an untouched black gun, just like I like to find them. Good markings on the lock-plate with the date 1862 over Tower and a crown to the rear. Of particular interest is the number 51 stamped on the butt plate. The blockade ran P-53 Enfields have an engraved number, and on this one, the number is stamped. It is interesting to note that some of the Blockade-run P56 Enfields have stamped numbers in the wood. It could quite possibly be a rack number, but the significance needs additional research.
The gun is in as-found condition with a damaged nipple and a missing ramrod. The trigger guard has a break and is bent downward, as shown in my pictures. The wood is good and has the usual nicks and dings associated with field use and storage. The barrel has a dark patina, and the 25- 25 proof marks are clear.
