State of New Jersey marked iron mounted bar on the band Enfield rifle dated 1861. State of New Jersey markings are clearly visible opposite the lock and in front of the butt-plate. The lock plate is strongly marked with the date '1861' over 'Tower' and the crown over VR on the rear. The barrel is smooth with the original blue turning a pleasant brown color. The stock is fine with the oval Birmingham marker roulette at the rear of the stock. Also visible is the stock maker's cartouche between the trigger guard and butt-plate. Good, strong bore and rifling. If you listen closely, you can hear the Battle Hymn of the Republic on a quiet night.
