Smith & Wesson .32 caliber. No. 2 Army (Old Model) Revolver, Civil War Era (often referred to as the "Second Model").
This is a single-action, tip-up (hinged barrel) pocket/revolver from Smith & Wesson, produced starting in 1861 (during the early Civil War) through 1874, with total production around 77,000 units. Serial number is 35626. It was a popular privately purchased sidearm for Union soldiers and officers, chambered in .32 rimfire (typically .32 Short or Long rimfire). It offered faster reloading than contemporary cap-and-ball revolvers and used waterproof metallic cartridges.
No original finish remaining. Pitting is visible in places. Markings on the barrel are faint but legible.
