Fuse spanner wrenches were an essential tool for artillery crews. Shell fuses controlled when a projectile would detonate after a timed delay, or at a preset distance. Proper adjustment was critical for battlefield effectiveness and crew safety. Early examples often show hand-forged hammer marks, uneven shaping, and simple utilitarian construction, reflecting their workshop origins rather than mass production.
