A fine Confederate D-Guard Bowie knife illustrated on page 220 of the book Confederate Bowie Knives. The authors note that this example closely resembles the Type IV Georgia Armory Bowie knives, though shorter in pattern, and suggest it may be a Georgia product. During the Civil War, locally produced Bowie knives such as this were manufactured in limited numbers by Southern armories and private contractors to help compensate for the Confederacy's shortage of imported edged weapons.

This example remains in very good condition and is accompanied by its original finely tooled leather scabbard. The upper tin mount has aged to an attractive, untouched dark patina, while the leather body of the scabbard is well preserved. The clip-point blade exhibits several small edge nicks consistent with period use and retains visible hand-finished file marks from its original manufacture, a characteristic commonly encountered on Confederate-made edged weapons. Overall, this is an attractive, published Confederate D-Guard Bowie with strong Georgia associations and excellent collector appeal.
