D guard knife attributed to the Confederate States Arsenal at Kenansville, North Carolina with the original scabbard. Overall length is 20 5/8 inches with a 15 1/2 blade. The original wood grips are fine with flat sides. The iron D Guard has a very dark uncleaned patina. The blade is nice with an overall mottled gray appearance with a few nicks down the edges. The scabbard is good with about 4 inches missing on one side on the end of one side. The belt loop has been torn with the remains still riveted to the scabbard. The crude soldered tin throat remains intact and is typical of those found on the Kenansville D guards.
