KENANSVILLE CONFEDERATE CAVALRY SABER

Excitingly fresh Kenansville cavalry saber with amounts of the maroon arsenal paint still on the scabbard. Deep copperish brown patina on all the brass parts. About 65% of the original leather grips remain worn thin in places by the hands of a boy in gray. The wood under the leather has 2 cracks, one on each side, the result of using uncured wood during construction. Interestingly the guard has two roman numerals on the edge and on the inside of the guard. One is 35 and the other is 27. The scabbard has the typical crude lapped seam with the exception of the throat which differs from other Kenansville enlisted sabers. The throat under close examination appears to be contemporary with the use of the sword quite possibly a field repair. The blade is the typical Kenansville saber with the rounded spine on the top. The blade has a visible fault line about two inches down as seen on a number of Confederate blades.
