Type 2 example of the Gwyn & Campbell .52 caliber breech loading civil war carbine. Fine condition showing slight use with very minor pitting around the nipple area. Total production of all types estimated to be around 8000 with known issues to various mid western cavalry units. Production numbers of the type 2 distinguished by the flat hammer are estimated to be around 4000. The action is mechanically perfect and all markings are present as shown by my photos. Traces of original case hardening are present on the lock and have a mottled gray appearance. Minute traces of the original blue are visible on various parts particularly on the underside of the receiver. The rear site is present but has some damage as shown in my photographs. The original bore is present but is very dirty and has not been cleaned. The wood is nice and still retains the original government inspection mark visible opposite the lock.
