This particular arm was manufactured by the Harpers Ferry Armory under J.H. Hall's patent. Approximately 19,680 of the model 1819 flintlock Hall rifles produced there until 1840. This one was produced in 1832 and was later altered to percussion for use in the Civil War. Large numbers were in many state arsenals with quite a few residing in Southern arsenals.
This example is an overall dark gun in attic untouched condition with some surface rust in a few places. The breech block is nicely marked J.H. HALL H.FERRY US 1832. The wood is overall good condition showing a few nicks and scraps associated with use in the field. The right side of the stock near the butt-plate has some varnish crazing evidence of having been stored in an hot attic. All of the mechanical actions function fine and are in good condition. The .54 caliber bore is untouched and retains sharp rifling.
