Iron mounted P56 Enfield with the JS anchor and import number 823 stamped behind the trigger guard. Also stamped behind the trigger guard is T TURNER for Thomas Turner of Birmingham, England. The iron mounted confederate numbered short rifles were stamped in the wood rather than the butt plate. The steel butt plates were too hard to stamp. The ramrod appears to be a replacement and does not have the matching import number. The wood is in overall fine condition with the usual nicks and scrapes associated with field use along with the soldier's initials carved opposite the lock. The metal parts all have a pleasant brown patina with some pitting on the barrel around the bolster. The lock is marked 1862 and Tower and is mechanically perfect. If you listen close you can hear the Rebel Yell.
