Strong markings on all iron parts that have a somewhat brown patina. Visible on the barrel tang and lockplate is the production date of 1844. The brass parts have a pleasant patina with a strong US stamping on the butt-plate. The wood is nice with 2 cartouches visible and stamped with the number 3 behind the barrel tang. The wood has the normal dings and nicks associated with use and storage. The rifle appears to be a Lyman alteration to .58 caliber with good rifling remaining.
