Approximately 6000 of these arms made by Nathan Starr under an 1840 U.S. government contract. Nice dark attic example altered to percussion with an unusual drum in barrel alteration. All the metal has a dark patina with some light pitting around the nipple. Barrel and lock markings are sharp and clear with no visible cartouche on the stock. the lock is dated 1844 with the barrel displaying an 1843 date. Mechanical action is good with good rifling remaining in the .54 caliber bore. The stock is fine with the usual nicks and dings and some wood erosion behind the nipple.
