Beautiful Confederate round corner buckle from a Florida collection. It is on a nice original civil war leather belt but however in my opinion not original to the plate. History obtained when the plate was purchased by the current owner states that it was obtained from the Rowland family of Ringgold, Georgia. Also, information further states that it was worn by a Rowland ancestor who served in an Alabama Cavalry unit. Research on ancestry found 3 Alabama cavalrymen with the last name Rowland. Unfortunately, I could not dot all the I's and cross all the T's to get a match. One of the Alabama soldiers, John D. Rowland did live in Georgia after the war, but he did not reside near Ringgold, Georgia and I could not find any decedents with a Ringgold connection. I did find a Ringgold Rowland family with an Alabama connection, but their ancestor served in a Tennessee mounted unit. Further research may find a match, but I feel confident that Colombo is the only one who could figure it out, but he has since passed. A letter of provenance and authenticity from highly respected dealer Larry Hicklin accompanies the buckle and belt.
