Confederate officers frock coat from an old collection. The frock coat is double breasted with with 14 Eagle staff buttons on the front that appear to be original to the coat. The buttons are HORSTMAN BRO & CO PHILADELPHIA in a raised mark with depressed channel. According to Les Jensen the material is this particular coat is one used in several surviving coats and may be a product of the Crenshaw mill in Richmond, Virginia. A coat at the Museum of the Confederacy attributed to the Crenshaw mill has very similar cloth. The button holes are hand sewn with black thread. The back flaps have 2 buttons remaining. The coat shows extensive field use with several holes from mothing. The collar insignia and sleeve braid appear to be replacements made with original braid material.
