A very fine example that appears to be unfired. Estimated production at the Springfield Armory is estimated to have been in the 6000 range. The metal parts are bright with no evidence of pitting. The .69 caliber smooth bore is bright and clean without any pitting. All the markings are sharp and clear on the barrel and lock and dated 1851. The button head ramrod is retained with the iron swivels under the barrel. The wood is fine with a few nicks and dings and retains a very sharp inspectors cartouche. Very fine example of a very desirable cavalry arm seldom encountered in this condition.
