Classic Kenansville enlisted cavalry saber with the distinct crude pommel cap associated with this maker. Nice example with patinated brass mountings, guard and pommel cap. The blade has a nice even dark grey patina with the typical unstopped fuller. The blade also has the typical rounded top edge found on these swords from this maker. The leather grips and copper wire wrap are intact and complete with minor wear in places. The guard and the riveted scabbard throat have the matching roman numeral (44) clearly visible. Traces of the maroon arsenal paint remain on the dent free scabbard with pitting on the drag from standing on a damp floor.
