An original ALS Stonewall Jackson letters are considered by many collectors to be the holy grail all Civil War letters. This particular letter is of special interest as it was written shortly before his death, and it also shows the deeply personal and religious side of Jackson. Written near Fredericksburg on April 18, 1863, he writes to the Honorable J.S. McCurry thanking him for expressing his views on the importance of not requiring mail to be transported on the Sabbath. He also states that a nation cannot with impunity violate Devine Law. A complete transcription is shown in my photos. The letter was sent to the honorable Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry. J.L.M. Curry graduated from the University of Georgia in 1843 and studied law at Harvard. When the war broke out in 1861 he served as representative in the first Confederate congress. Later he served as a Lieutenant Colonel of Cavalry serving on Joe Johnston and Joe Wheelers staff during the war. Professionally mounted in a 2 sided 30x13 inch frame.
