Probably one of the rarest of all Georgia belt plates from the historic Chatham Artillery of Savannah Georgia. This excavated example is very nicely jeweler engraved on the front C A 1786. The Chatham Artillery can trace it's lineage from before the Revolutionary War to units still active today. They have served in every major action this country has ever been involved since the American Revolution. The unit was so well thought of by General George Washington that when he visited Savannah in1791 he presented them with two field pieces captured from the British at Yorktown. Beautiful patina with all the hooks remaining on the back and a rare and very iconic piece of Georgia history. .
