Carbine cartridge box made by J. Davy and company, Newark, New Jersey. All leather parts intact with some age crinkling as shown in photos. Leather latch tab is present with some cracking around the finial hole. Wooden block is present and drilled to hold 20 cartridges. Joseph Davy is listed in the 1859 Essex County business directory as a harness, saddle and trunk maker. During the Civil War he is listed as contractor suppling leather accoutrements to the state of New Jersey.
