Ames model 1860 cavalry saber in very fine condition retaining all of its original leather and twisted wire wrap on the grip. Blade has a medium grey appearance with strong Ames markings and dated 1865 with several nicks on the cutting edge. Brass guard and pommel cap have a nice pleasing patina along with an interesting bent Quilon obviously to provide a thumb rest by the soldier who used it. The metal scabbard retains all the original mounts and is free of any dents. The entire scabbard has a very deep brown patina and very minor surface rust in some areas.
