Very nicely carved wooded pipe measuring 2 3/4 inches long. Inlaid on each side are 2 silver Union shields inscribed with Union on one side and the initials JT on the other. Also carved is Co. A on one side, opposite side R OV and 23rd with cross sabers on the front. My research finds 2 possibilities in company A 23rd regiment Ohio volunteers. One Jacob Tegarine who was wounded at Winchester, Virginia and the other James Thompson.
