New copy of the reprint of the 1884 edition reprinted in 1985. The memoir was originally intended to be a simple tribute by 15th governor of Florida, Francis Fleming ,to his fallen brother Charles Seton Fleming 2nd Florida infantry. Charles Seton Fleming was killed the evening of June 3, 1864 in a senseless charge against the Union works on Gaines Farm. As work progressed on the memoir it developed into an in depth study detailing the life of his brother and the role of the the Second Florida infantry in the Army of Northern Virginia on battlefields far from home. This is the best first hand account available detailing the service of a Florida regiment in the war between the states.
