Nice example showing some use but retaining traces of the original blue on the barrel. Markings clear with serial number 27795 and 1865 behind the loading lever. The right side of the frame marked MANUFACTURED BY/ MASS. ARMS CO./ CHICOPEE FALLS. The left side is clearly marked EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE /MAY 27,1851/DEC.6, 1859. The casehardening has turned to a mottled gray appearance and some rust pitting is visible behind the hammer. The bore is clean with a very few rust spots but overall very good.. The wood is nice with several nicks and dings with the government inspectors marks clearly visible. The second model differs from the 1st model with the elimination of the patch box and the tape primer system. Total production between 1863-1865 was about 20,000 in .50 caliber.
