Very rare and seldom encountered Confederate maker marked painted canvas cap box from my private collection. The body is constructed of painted canvas with a leather pouch flap and side flaps. This example has a beautiful turned wood finial. The latch tab and inner flap are loose and need to be expertly reattached. Prussian immigrant Nathan Crown of Columbus, Georgia contracted with the Confederate ordinance department to supply accoutrements and cavalry saddles during the war.
