Nice example of a Robbins and Lawrence contract M1841 Mississippi rifle made at Windsor,Vermont. Approximately 15,000 were produced under contract between 1848-1853. The lock is strongly marked ROBBINS & LAWRENCE US forward of the hammer and VINDSOR/VT. 1850 at the rear of the lock and is mechanically perfect. The barrel has an overall mottled gray appearance with pitting around the bolster. Barrel markings, US over L.B.C. over P clearly visible with the barrel date ,1850, barely visible under the pitting on the barrel tang. All brass parts have a pleasant appearance having been cleaned many years ago with the US strongly stamped on the butt plate. The wood is dark with the inspectors marks visible opposite the lock. The wood has a few nicks and dings from use over the years. The rifling still remains but is somewhat dirty.
