Civil War veterans ladder badge for a soldier in company B of the 45th Kentucky mounted infantry. The badge displays well but is missing the attachment pin. The 45th was first organized as a defense battalion for defense of the Eastern counties of Kentucky and on the Virginia border. They participated in the battle of Cynthinan in which the invading forces of Captain John Hunt Morgan were defeated. Company B was recruited from men in and around Boyd County Kentucky. Total losses during the war were 113 men during service; 10 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded 1 officer and 102 enlisted men died of disease.
