Harpers Ferry Model 1841 rifle altered by Harpers Ferry by adding a bayonet lug to accept a saber bayonet. This alteration required cutting the stock fore end back and shortening the front barrel band. The bore was rifled to .58 caliber and a long range rear site was added. Some rifling is present but has worn to approximately .61 caliber. The wood is decent and has the usual nicks and dings from actual field use but does not retain the inspector's mark. The barrel has a light mottled gray appearance with pitting around the bolster forward to the site. All the brass parts are fine and have a nice patina. The lock is mechanically perfect with sharp markings and dated 1852. The barrel date is partially obscured by the pitting around the bolster.
