CONFEDERATE NAVAL CUTLASS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CSS FLORIDA
Item #: df17

Considered rare this type of cutlass has been associated with the CSS Florida. The identity was first mentioned in the book AMERICAN SWORDS FROM THE PHILLIP MEDICUS COLLECTION by Norm Flayderman. The attribution is from a tag with the sword that indicates it was associated with the CSS Florida and that it was sold in the United States prize court auction in Philadelphia after the capture.
Very crudely made resembling a machete with wooden grips along with a brass guard with 2 branches. One of the branches has a break and the wooden grips have several cracks as shown in my photos. The blade is in fine condition with several very minor nicks on the sharpened edge. An excellent in depth article is available online by noted Confederate Naval collector Gerald C. Roxbury U.S. Navy (retired). I have a copy of the article which I will include with the Cutlass.
