Nice condition of THE FIELD MANUAL OF THE EVOLUTIONS OF THE LINE inscribed inside to 1st Lt. John M. Schoonmaker of the 20th and 80th New York Infantry. 144 pages and printed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1862. Evidently Lt. Schoonmaker was around a bunch of thieving Yankees and was concerned about his volume getting away as he inscribed it in about 5 places. The 80th New York was in the thick of the fight at Gettysburg during Pickett's charge and it was there that Schoonmaker was wounded. Due to his bravery in that action, he was promoted to Captain. After the surrender the 80th occupied Richmond and Captain Schoonmaker was placed in charge of Libby Prison and Castle Thunder.
