Savannah Volunteer Guards Belt Plate

Nice, excavated example and the exact plate pictured in Steve Mullinax's book CONFEDERATE BELT BUCKLES AND PLATES on page 144 of the expanded edition. The plate is die stamped rolled brass with a nice deep greenish patina miss the bar on the back. The top has a small nick as shown in the pictures. The Savannah Volunteer Guards were founded in 1802 and were the upper crust of Savannah society. It is noted by Steve Mullinax that several examples have been found in the early Confederate winter camps in Virginia.
