This sword was produced by James Conning of Mobile, Alabama under contract to the State of Alabama. It has been stated in published sources that approximately 500 of the light artillery sabers were manufactured for the State of Alabama. For some reason very few examples remain today making this an extremely rare saber.
The sword is in the original scabbard and is in fine untouched condition. The blade has a grey appearance and is devoid of any damage. Interestingly the light artillery sabers manufactured by James Conning had polished wood grips and the grips are in fine condition along with the original twisted wire wrap. a wonderful example of a very rare sword.
