Dark uncleaned fresh to the market high hump Richmond musket. This is an early 1862 production with iron nose cap and butt plate and with the full high hump lock plate which is rarer than the typical Richmond muskets encountered. This example is completely correct and untouched except for the ram rod which appears to be a replacement. There is also a wood repair about one inch behind the end barrel band as shown in my pictures. The metal has an overall untouched dark patina just as you like to find them. The wood has the usual nicks and dings from actual field use. The barrel date is partly visible and also it has the broken P proof usually encountered on the early high hump Richmond muskets. The barrel bands have the usual non aligning U which is original to the musket. The hammer tang has the original Richmond style knurling that is found on true Richmond muskets. The stock is a Harper's Ferry stock with the slot for the 1855 tape primer lock. These stocks are correct for the very early Richmond muskets as the Richmond armory was still utilizing some of the captured Harpers Ferry parts.
