Excitingly fresh to the market Kenansville cavalry saber. Particularly interesting is the fact that all the brass parts were gold gilded at one time. This is the first time I have encountered a Kenansville enlisted saber with the gilded finish and it leads to the speculation that this might have been for an officer.
The saber is in fine condition retaining all the original leather grip and iron wire wrap. The typical Kenansville rounded spine blade is in fine condition with 1 tiny nick on the edge of the blade. The scabbard has a nice patinated appearance with the typical crude lapped seam and riveted brass throat. The guard and throat have typical roman numeral assembly stampings. I think it would be extremely difficult to find one better on the market today.
