Rare M1834 Revenue Marine Service sword presented to William M.Strachan of the 4th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. Prior to serving in the 4th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery William Strachan also served in the 9th Massachusetts Infantry. William Strachran was born in Scotland in 1825 and immigrated to this country and settled in the Boston Massachusetts area. After the war he ran a restaurant in Woburn, Massachusetts and passed away on October 31, 1892. A very rare sword made by Ames in good condition but missing the scabbard. The etched blade is fine with some age staining in spots and a few minor nicks present. The grip retains about 80% of its silver plating and has a pleasing appearance.
