The late Bill Turner would often remark "where else are you going to get another one" which best describes the rarity of this sword. Abraham Dewitt, a Jewler by trade, is known to have manufactured swords in Columbus, Georgia. Easily identified by the Snakes in the guard configuration. This example has the raised CS in the pommel cap. An example of one is illustrated in Bill Albaugh's book CONFEDERATE SWORDS in the addendum on page 22. This is the first time I have been able to handle one in my years of collecting. Dewitt also made another variation of the CS in pommel cap that had a light etching of the CS surrounded by stars instead of the raised CS design as seen on this sword. This sword is in fine untouched condition and is in the original scabbard easily identified by the thin ring band on the 1st and 2nd mount. The brass guard has a beautiful age-old brownish patina as well as the mounts on the scabbard. The leather scabbard is 100% intact and is in strong condition. The blade is fine and has an uncleaned gray appearance with a couple very minor nicks.
