The frock coat is a regulation infantry officers frock coat with "Palmetto Guard" buttons. Accompanying the coat is a 1/6 plate ambrotype of Lt. )Pinson wearing the exact same coat, his sash and a pass that was found in one of the pockets. Also a copy of an image of his wife and daughter is included. This uniform was worn by Lieutenant Jesse B. Pinson who served in Holcombe's Legion, South Carolina until his death on November 11, 1864 in action in front of the Crater at Petersburg, Virginia. The uniform has 15 Palmetto Guard buttons which are among some of the rarest of Confederate buttons.

Jesse Pinton was born on January 15, 1833 in the Southern Division of Spartanburg County in South Carolina. Jesse is listed as a farmer with a wife and one daughter. At the time of his enlistment in Company A of Holcombe Legion he is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, fair complexion blue eyes and with light hair.

The Holcombe Legion was a small unit that served as part of Evans and Elliot's Brigades through most of the war. Lieutenant Pinson was present with the Legion until he was killed in action with the exception of January and February 1864 when he was detailed for duty at Fort Sumter. The Legion served in the following actions, Edisto Island, Rappahannock Station, 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Jackson Siege, Charleston, Kinston ,Stoney Creek Station, Jarrett's Station, Nottoway Bridge, Bermuda Hundred and the Petersburg Siege.
